Benjamin McCain

Nebraska native Benjamin McCain was born and raised in the sandhills region of the midwest. Growing up in a rural town requires a fair amount of travel for most tasks. During hour long trips to the grocery store, or to pick up parts for the farm, he often longed for a different landscape or scenery. His work reflects the search for new topography and quiet moments of reflection captured on medium format film. The film camera is a vital part of the work. It requires patience and planning. The scenes captured by the camera and photographer are a process of contemplation, meditation, and the seek for peace and quiet as much as they are the final result. Benjamin has since come to peace and even developed an affinity for the slow rolling hills of Sand Bluestem, Switchgrass, and Eastern Red Cedar that dominate the region that raised him. Current works reflect that feeling and attempt to show as much reverance when composing in rural Nebraska as in more exotic locations.
